Keep a Journal, Give a Journal

Left front (and everything else): my journals, Right front: purchased journals for friends

Everyone who keeps a journal, should be like Johnny Appleseed, and plant the seeds of creativity and self awareness everywhere they go. All it takes is a journal. No seeds, water, or miles of sun-filled, tree-free land needed.
I don't wait for an inkling that someone is "interested" in writing, or "wantstobe" an artist. I put the instruments (an inexpensive journal and a pen) in their hot little hands and stand out of the way of magic if it is going to happen. If it doesn't...it wasn't meant to be...not my problem. (~skip through woods, not a care in the world, maybe even whistling~)
I keep plenty of blank lined or unlined journals, that I get at various sales, on hand in a closet. On the way to meet someone for dinner or some other fun outing, I'll put a couple journals in my purse...ready to give as a small gift. Everyone loves a gift. They have no idea it's a part of my master plan.
A journal in every hand. Peace and joy everywhere. Or something like that.

Spread the seeds of journaling, especially with children. Children learn to read more easily if they are encouraged to explore writing their own stories in their own way.

There are many places to get inexpensive journals for giving. If there is a Half Price Books near you, they have an ample supply. Ditto Barnes and Noble in their sale racks.
Be the Johnny Appleseed of Journaling in your area...you may scare up some like-minded journal types to sit and journal with over coffee. Even better.

What a great post! I do try to invite friends to journal by giving the supplies...and my secod graders write in their notebooks everyday! My students write and create way more than my friends however...I am grateful for journaling bloggers like you! It inspires me and is so much fun. Thank you for sharing...kath

Amen Miss Lynn.

I have to tell ya such a journal changed my life. Years ago I saw Oprah challenging all to keep a gratitude journal. Write down five things each day that you are grateful for.

I found my negative thoughts transformed into positive ones. Golly gee, I did have to come up with five things each and every blessed day. I would actively looks for the good in my day so I could journal it.

It changed my life!

Currant catalog and Currant online have some truly bang~up deals on such things.

God bless ya sweetie and have yourself an amazin' day!!! :o)

(So sorry this is soooo long, daddy would of called it 'diarrhea of the mouth!!!) Heeeehehehe!!!

Kathy, good to see someone sewing the seeds of literacy by encouraging children to journal (now I hope all of that was spelled correctly : ) )...Too bad we don't live close...I would journal with you! (if there is tea, I'm there)

Nezzy! Bless you right back (and thanks for that BTW)
I remember the gratitude journals...what a great idea those were. I started journaling when I took a class from Phoebe Hanson (an area writer). I was so enthralled by her accounts of the everyday that i wanted to be just like her.
Thanks for the heads up on Currents...I'm going to check that out.
I also forgot to mention that Micheals and JoAnn Fabrics have journals as well. Apparently I do go on too!
